Art is an expressive form of the human condition and our connection to other humans. Art and creativity cannot be generated by binary code. A computer may be great at automating processes but it has no soul and it cannot think. It can only mimic, steal stuff and regurgitate it. The rest is marketing. AI is a trendy term for lots of stuff that contains no intelligence. It’s tulip fever. flim-flam, ephemera, flash in the pan idealism. You know, like NFTs and Crypto. They lasted well didn’t they?
Well, I’m keeping an open mind when it comes to AI! The improvement in output quality over the last year has been quite staggering and a little disturbing. I see AI as an extraordinarily powerful tool for creatives and is now built-in to every digital creative tool that we use, but I share the concern of artists who rightly feel their work and talent is being cheaply exploited and ripped-off. At Pook we are committed to protecting intellectual property and we rather like making stuff ourselves anyway.
